Nissan Micra (other designation: March) is a Japanese passenger car belonging to the city car class, which was first presented to the general public in 1982. Its serial production started in the same year and is still ongoing. It took place in several Nissan Motor Company plants, including: in the Oppama plant in Japan and in the city of Sunderland in Great Britain.
The Nissan Micra was designed as a small compact car to compete on the market with the popular Honda City. Five generations of the Micra were produced during serial production. The first one was produced in the years 1982-1992 and was offered as a 3- or 5-door hatchback, with engines with a capacity of 1 to 1.2 litres. The second generation went into production in 1992 and was produced in Japan until 2003. It offered a wider range of engines and an enlarged boot. This version of the Micra won the European Car of the Year plebiscite in 1993. In 2002, the third generation went into production, which was very clearly different from the previous one in terms of styling and modernized engines. Generation number IV appeared in 2010 and was built on a new platform, which made the new generation slightly longer than the previous one. The range of available engines was changed and narrowed, and the design of the passenger compartment was changed. The last, as of now, V generation was presented to the general public in 2016 during the Paris Motor Show. The main changes concerned the styling and drive units.
