Endurance races, represented by the iconic Le Mans race, have gained significant popularity among the various motorsport events in Europe. One notable event held at Germany’s Nürburgring circuit is the Nürburgring Endurance Series, which boasts a rich history and tradition dating back to 1977. It is recognized as one of the world’s largest motorsport series. Annually, around 10 races spanning 3.5 to 6 hours are conducted, with teams competing for the season championship. Each race sees approximately 170 participating vehicles, featuring a diverse range of classes that include commercially available racing models, GT3 cars, and touring cars based on production models. The competition in each class is intense, leading to thrilling races. As a result, this event has gained a lot of popularity and attracted a large number of fans. One of the teams that competes in this series is Walkenhorst Motorsport. Led by Henry Walkenhorst, who also operates a BMW dealership, Walkenhorst Motorsport has established itself as a renowned and influential customer team for BMW. Walkenhorst Motorsport has actively engaged in racing activities early on, aiming for both promotional purposes and technical advancement. With a primary focus on touring car races, Walkenhorst Motorsport has achieved numerous victories, showcasing their high skill level. Since 2016, Walkenhorst Motorsport has been using the BMW M6 GT3, a racing car developed by BMW with a powerful 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, and have been performing remarkably well in each race they enter. Walkenhorst Motorsport fully participated in the 2020 Nürburgring Endurance Series. The season faced uncertainty because of the coronavirus outbreak worldwide, and the opening race was in doubt. However, the season eventually commenced in June. Unfortunately, due to the subsequent spread of infections, the 6th to 8th races scheduled for October onwards were canceled. As a result, the overall standings were based on the results of the first five races, creating an unconventional season format. With the initial schedule changes posing challenges for all teams’ preparations, Walkenhorst Motorsport showcased their strength and achieved a stable performance, securing one victory, two second-place finishes, and one third-place finish out of the five races. Their BMW M6 GT3 with car number 34 was driven by Christian Krognes from Norway, David Pitterd from the UK, and Jorda Pepper from South Africa. They secured the championship title in the SP9 Pro class.
